Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922)


Bell invented the first practical telephone which he patented in 1876. In 1888, he was a founding member of the National Geographic Society. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Bell's first inventions — at the age of 12 — was a dehusking machine for a flour mill owned by the father of one of his friends. Bell's family emmigrated to Canada before coming to the United States.
