On 25 October 1774, Penelope Barker organized a tea party in Edenton, North Carolina. It was one of the first political acts organized by women in the British colonies. "A Society of Patriotic Ladies at Edenton North Carolina" is a satirical print attributed to Philip Dawe which was published in England by Sayer and Bennett on 25 March 1775.
